Life changing skill: Strengths-spotting!

Curious about why some people seem to love their work and others seem to hate it?

One reason is likely to depend on whether their job plays to their strengths. Research shows that people who play to their strengths are happier, healthier, and more engaged in work.

However, only about 1/3rd of us are aware of our strengths and only 16% of us are fully engaged in work.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

You can find work or a career where you are excited to go to work and where you get a chance to play to your strengths every day. How? Become a strengths-spotter!!

Learn to become an expert in identifying natural talent in yourself and others. Armed with this knowledge you can use it to find work and design jobs that you love

Here’s a first step - start by naming your own strengths.

Talk to people you trust. Ask them to share their perspective on what you are good at. The smart folks at Squiggly Careers recommend asking a family member, a friend and a colleague the same question:

"I’m trying to figure out my strengths. What three words would you use to describe me?"

And then, if you are confident, ask for their reasons so that you can understand your strengths better.

Once you have a clearer idea of your strengths, why not practice naming them by sharing them!

If you are ready to see how your strengths can transform your approach to work and life, take the Strengths Discovery Program to build a career around what you do best.
